Day one of high school football practice is in the books in the state of Oklahoma, as things were officially allowed to get going on Monday.

The weather threw a bit of a wrench into Bartlesville’s first practice. The Bruins had to delay their first time at Custer Stadium because of lightening in the area but enjoyed cooler temperatures once they were able to start.

Grades 9-12 ran through workouts and drills together on the field until about 8:30 in the evening. The Bruins also got to enjoy a recently renovated locker room, which was debuted to the guys before practice No. 1.

After practice head coach Harry Wright talks about how things went.

Bartlesville is coming off a 3-8 campaign a year ago but will have most of its main starters back. There were couple of impactful injuries during the offseason, as EJ Belisle will be out for the year. Belisle was expected to be a factor at defensive back and wide receiver. Also, offensive lineman John Torres and running back Daeton Stevens are banged up to begin camp.

Wright says even with the delayed start; the cooler weather made it worth it,

Bartlesville will hold its annual “Meet the Bruins” event on Friday night starting with the youth guys at 5:00. It will culminate in an intersquad scrimmage for junior high and high school guys later in the evening.

Bartlesville’s scrimmage will be a week from Thursday at Bishop Kelley, with game No. 1 at home against Newcastle on Aug. 29 at Custer Stadium.
